It is the beautiful month of March and most importantly a month dedicated to celebrating our dear women for their prevalence, contribution to society, and a remembrance of the continued struggle for equality in all spheres of life.

To commemorate this, our foundation which never ceases to show support for women and the girl child organized a medical/financial literacy event for the women of the Oje Olobi market, Sabo, Ede.  Innovation and technology for gender equality is the theme for the year and indeed, we did justice to the cause. To ensure proper enlightenment in improving their digital skills to match up with the demands of present times, a relationship management expert from Wema bank, Mr. Oyewusi  Oyeniran, was invited to educate the women on basic financial skills that would enable their businesses to thrive and be able to grapple through the recent cashless policy enacted by the federal government and Central Bank of Nigeria.

These skills included effective calculation of expenditure to ascertain the right profit, practicing constant bookkeeping and stock taking, benefits of marketing, and combined savings.

For the medical activities, we educated the participants on the perks of maintaining a  healthy lifestyle and managing stress. Our medical volunteer, Mrs. Olashore Eunice, went further to address their questions and strictly informed them to regularly check their vitals to prevent unforeseen medical disasters. A total of 70 persons were screened resulting in 2 high blood pressure patients, 3 low blood sugar, 5 high blood sugar and 2 high blood pressure and sugar level patients. The affected persons were counseled while individuals with low sugar levels were provided with soft drinks to boost their systems coupled with other medical instructions.

The event concluded at exactly 1: 15 pm with the distribution of drinks and snacks, a photography session, and a heartfelt vote of thanks from the market heads, Alhaja Memunat Abegbe and Babaloja,  Alhaji Ismaila Olaiya.

It was an exhaustive lecture centered on health education and creating awareness which is basic human evolution needs. As sculptors of the human race, we must not relent in supporting women and mitigating gender discrimination. It is still the month of celebrating women and we urge everyone to participate actively by including more women into deserving positions, making health needs more available to them, dismantling barriers that threaten their development, and many other discriminating activities. Like the popular dictum, The Future is Female.
