In preparation for the celebration of International Women’s Day in March, our foundation organized its usual girl and pad outreach program at the Bashorun community of Oyo State.  Our purpose for organizing the program was to sensitize young girls and adults on Menstruation and Menstrual hygiene, to distribute sanitary pads to girls and young women, and also to respond to questions on menstruation and give appropriate advice and counseling.

The event took place on the 3rd of march, 2023, and commenced at 11 am with an introductory speech by the state PR.

Our volunteer nurse mounted the podium to address the participants on the significance of menstrual health and the delicate nature of the female body to easily contract infections when not properly cared for. Girls and women with menstrual issues were attended to and more serious cases were referred to a hospital. Young girls were shown how to use and dispose off sanitary pads.

It was a brief but extensively enlightening program that ended at 2 pm with the distribution of pads and other gift items.

Many of our young girls and women are still in the habit of using tissue rolls and clothing materials during menstruation which is highly detrimental to their health,  some practice this out of ignorance and others are because of an inability to purchase a sanitary pad.  We call on the government and organizations to observe this one of many other goals of improving the living condition of women by making sanitary wares available and affordable for young girls and women.
