The warmth of the afternoon sun on August 31st, 2024, set the perfect mood for the gathering at Osogbo Stadium—a mid-year retreat organized by the organization for its dedicated volunteers. This event wasn’t just a routine meeting; it was a much-needed pause, a moment to reflect, learn, and reconnect with the mission that binds everyone together.
At 1 pm, our Osun state volunteers and staff members were present. The program manager set the tone for the retreat by expressing deep gratitude for the commitment each volunteer has shown, acknowledging that their selfless dedication is a strong backbone of the organization. The purpose of the retreat was clear: to hold focused group discussions on previous activities, refresh the essential skills needed for upcoming projects, and of course, enjoy some well-deserved time together.
The discussion kicked off with the program manager updating everyone on the skills necessary for the organization’s ongoing activities, and opened the floor for feedback and ideas from the volunteers based on their past experiences.
The retreat took a thoughtful turn when a volunteer, who is also a nurse, delivered a brief but impactful talk on stress management. It was a timely reminder of the importance of self-care, especially for those who give so much of themselves to others. The volunteers seized the opportunity to ask health-related questions, creating an open and supportive environment where everyone’s well-being was prioritized.
As the retreat drew to a close, the volunteers expressed their appreciation for the organization’s recognition of their efforts. The event was an indication of the organization’s commitment to its volunteers, not just during the festive December period but throughout the year. The day ended with smiles, photos, and refreshments, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of purpose and connection.
The feedback and ideas generated will no doubt help shape future activities, ensuring that the organization continues to thrive and make a difference, with the support of its invaluable volunteers. View photos of the event below;
