What happens when adolescent girls are given a safe space to speak, learn, and grow? At the Girls Zone Club, magic unfolds.
On November 22nd, 15 young girls were hosted by our foundation for an event and our goals were simple yet profound; to help them embrace their bodies, build confidence, and gain life skills that could shape their future. This wasn’t just another program – it was a space where young girls could be themselves, talk openly about their challenges, and gain confidence in a world that often tells them otherwise.
The first day was all about self-discovery. A skilled facilitator led discussions on body autonomy, self-awareness, and body positivity. Using stories from her own life, she showed the girls how to embrace their unique bodies, no matter their shape, size, or color. With the simple yet powerful slogan “My Body: My Pride,” the girls explored ways to combat societal pressures, body shaming, and unwanted advances. The importance of making informed decisions about their bodies was emphasized, and they were reminded never to keep harmful secrets.
Day two brought a shift from self-reflection to skill-building. The girls learned how to make delicious snacks like zobo and puff puff. Step by step, they discovered how to source for ingredients, package their creations, and even market them. The joy on their faces as they shared their snacks was priceless, as they realized these skills could help them earn an income.
The program ended with each girl receiving a special package containing essentials like sanitary pads, panty liners, and face wipes. But more importantly, they left with newfound confidence, life lessons, and practical skills to navigate the world.
The Girls Zone Club wasn’t just an event; it was a stepping stone towards empowerment, showing each girl that her voice matters, her body is her pride, and her future is hers to shape. Check out photos from the event below:
