It was that time of the year – the annual end-of-year party and volunteers’ appreciation picnic for the year 2023, a heartwarming celebration of commitment, service, and goodwill at Engineer Bunmi Aiyegoro’s compound in GRA, Osogbo on the 28th December 2023.
The gathering, which spanned between 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, was a moment geared toward acknowledging the dedication of volunteers who had played pivotal roles in the successful implementation of Kiitan Foundation’s activities throughout the year. In attendance were staff members, and volunteers, carefully selected based on their unwavering commitment and impactful contributions.
Adding a touch of wisdom to the event was an esteemed guest, Mr. Olashore Emmanuel, a social work specialist, who took the stage to give a brief but powerful lecture that delved into the essence of ‘volunteerism’. He reminded the volunteers that giving back to society and expecting nothing in return is a profound act of service. “Service to humanity is the best work of life,” he emphasized, “not because it pays more, but because you derive fulfillment from contributing to humanity.”
Mr. Olashore enlightened the gathering on the various forms of volunteerism – be it offering skills, strength, money, expertise, or knowledge. He urged the volunteers to seize the opportunity to position themselves for greater societal impact, emphasizing that learning through volunteerism is a powerful means of building capacity.
With hearts filled with inspiration, some volunteers took the spotlight, sharing their motivations and experiences. Their stories echoed the transformative power of selfless service, reinforcing the belief that every act of kindness, no matter how small, creates an effect of positive change.
