Imagine being a young girl facing the challenges of menstrual health and hygiene without proper guidance or access to sanitary products. Unfortunately, this is the reality for many girls in communities around the world. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of organizations around the world including ourselves, positive change is happening. Let’s take a closer look at one of our recent initiatives, “The Girl and the Pad Outreach,” aimed at empowering young girls nationwide.
This outreach location was in Ibadan North LGA of Oyo state, volunteers from the Foundation gathered to set up the venue for the event as usual, focused on sensitization on menstruation and menstrual hygiene, distribute sanitary products and enlighten young girls and adults, the team worked diligently to prepare the venue. At 11am, the venue was bustling with activity as young girls, mothers, and women of different ages arrived. The event kicked off with an introduction to our mission and objectives, setting the stage for an informative and empowering session.
A volunteer medical personnel was readily present to address questions and concerns related to menstrual health. From basic hygiene practices to more complex issues, every query was met with compassion and expertise. Those needing further assistance were referred to nearby hospitals for proper care. One of the highlights of the event was the practical demonstration on how to use and dispose of sanitary pads. Younger girls who had just begun menstruating were taught essential skills, and their eagerness to learn was rewarded with gifts, encouraging them to continue practising good hygiene habits.
The event came to a close at 2pm, leaving behind a sense of empowerment and hope in the hearts of all who attended. Through initiatives like this, we feel fulfilled to have made a tangible difference in the lives of young girls, and women equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate menstruation with confidence and dignity. With continued support and dedication, we can work towards reaching more females and make global access to education and support available to every girl and woman.
