On February 27, 2026, a free grocery outreach was held in Ibadan North (Ojuirin-Ashi) as part of ongoing efforts to support food security. The initiative aimed to meet the immediate nutritional needs of vulnerable households while promoting dignity and community resilience.

Goals of the Outreach

The event focused on three key objectives:

  • Nutritional Support: Providing essential groceries to families experiencing food insecurity.
  • Community Welfare: Improving quality of life in underprivileged urban areas through humanitarian aid.
  • Dignity Restored: Creating a respectful, shopping-style experience that empowers beneficiaries.

How the Program Worked

The outreach was organized to ensure safety, fairness, and efficiency:

  • Preparation: Volunteers arranged and displayed food items to resemble a typical grocery setup.
  • Orientation: Participants were welcomed and informed about the goals of the day.
  • Distribution: A number-tag system ensured an orderly, first-come-first-served process, giving everyone a fair opportunity to receive groceries.
  • Inclusive Reach: The program served a wide range of community members, including the elderly and heads of households.

Impact

With an average household size of four, the outreach positively affected around 480 individuals. Feedback from participants highlighted:

  • Grocery packs would support several days of meals, easing financial stress.
  • The organized distribution made recipients feel valued and respected.
  • There is strong interest in continuing such initiatives due to ongoing economic challenges.

Wrapping Up

The event concluded with a clean-up and team debrief, reflecting on successes and planning future community support activities. Overall, the outreach was a meaningful step in promoting food security and uplifting the Ojuirin-Ashi community. See photos from the event below;
