On June 14, 2025, the Kitan Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to community well-being by hosting a comprehensive medical outreach program at Premier College, Keke Aboto, Awo Road, Ede. With a vision to bridge the healthcare access gap, the outreach delivered critical health services directly to the doorstep of local residents—particularly those who might otherwise struggle to access routine healthcare.

A Mission to Serve

The outreach was designed with clear objectives in mind: to provide free health checks and consultations, promote preventive healthcare, and identify individuals needing further medical intervention. More than just a service, it was a statement—that good health should not be a privilege, but a right for all.

A Community-Focused Initiative

The event drew a diverse crowd of beneficiaries, ranging from young children to elderly community members. Over 130 individuals received care, with approximately 60 young people and 70 adults benefiting from the initiative.

The outreach featured a broad spectrum of health services:

  • Vital Signs & Screening: Blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory checks, blood sugar levels, malaria testing, and BMI assessments.
  • Medical Consultations: General checkups, diagnoses, and advice from healthcare professionals.
  • Health Education: Talks on hygiene, nutrition, menstrual health, and common illnesses—empowering individuals with knowledge for long-term well-being.
  • Free Medication Distribution: Including antimalarials, analgesics, anti-diabetics, hematinics, supplements, and more.
  • Referral Services: Patients with serious or chronic conditions were connected to appropriate healthcare centers for ongoing care.

Powered by a Passionate Team

The success of the event was made possible by a dedicated team, including:

  • 1 Medical Doctor
  • 1 Nurse
  • 4 Passionate Volunteers

Despite the lean team, the outreach managed to deliver quality care efficiently and compassionately.

Challenges Met

While the event was largely successful, it wasn’t without challenges. An unexpectedly high turnout led to limited medication supplies, and the modest team had to stretch to manage logistics. A brief spell of unfavorable weather also presented minor disruptions. However, these hurdles were met with resilience and teamwork, ensuring the outreach stayed on course.

A Lasting Impact

The outcomes were tangible:

  • Over 130 community members received critical health support.
  • Many became more informed about preventive health practices.
  • Several individuals were identified for further medical care and were referred accordingly.
  • The Foundation’s presence and credibility in the community were significantly bolstered.
