Kiitan Foundation collaborated with the Community Advancement Initiative For Self Reliance (CAI4SR) for World sight day 2021. World sight day is observed annually on the second Thursday of the month of October, this global date is meant to create awareness to issues of eye health and vision impairment.
This year, the theme for the 2021 world sight day was; ‘Love your eyes’, which we adapted for our monthly medical outreach in collaboration with Community Advancement Initiative for Self Reliance ( CAI4SR) at Rave FM premises on October 14. The event was geared towards creating eye health awareness and the importance of vision to the general health of the body.
In conjunction with CAI4SR, the activities carried out for the World Sight Day were :
- BMI test
- Blood sugar test
- Blood pressure test
- Visual Acuity (VA) test conducted by CAI4SR
- Diagnosis/ consultation with medical practitioners
Kiitan foundation conducted free general health check-ups for each of the attendees present and also allowed the beneficiaries to have access to free consultation as our organisation made provisions for 2 volunteer medical doctors (Dr. Solomon Bayere, Medical Officer at UNIOSUN, and Dr. Babalola Olusegun general medicine doctor at UNIOSUN teaching hospital). Drugs which were dispensed based on the doctor’s diagnosis and prescriptions were also provided for, they are as follows: Analgesics
- Anti-diabetics
- Anti- hypertensive
- Vitamins
- Drug supplement
- Antibiotics
- Non consumable commodities ( gloves, mask, cotton wool, lancet, Accu check strip)
- Free lenses/ glasses by CAI4SR
- Aftercare eye consultation to beneficiaries
We served a total of 320 individual beneficiaries while 41 people took advantage of prescription lenses after their visual acuity tests were conducted. Our event was brought to you by Kiitan Foundation (Executive director, donors, doctors, nurses, volunteers) and partner, Community Advancement Initiative For Self Reliance (CAI4SR).
