March 8, 2021 is yet another International Women’s Day (IWD) , a day dedicated to celebrating women’s achievement in the social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. The day, collectively founded by women, also brings attention to gender parity and women’s rights.
The campaign theme of this year’s IWD is “choose to challenge”. Kiitan Foundation believes that such challenges as this draws attention and alerts the public on issues bother on gender bias and inequity. While challenging our world to be more inclusive, we must also not forget to celebrate women around the world who are changing the narrative from our co-founder (Rahmat Ojo) to our very own recently first elected African Director General of the World Trade Organization (Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala) to the young Pakistani activist for female education (Malala Yousafzai) and many more women doing their part in being a voice and force to reckon with for the women community.
Despite the significant progress on gender equality and women empowerment, it is still tough for women out there. Realizing this, Kiitan Foundation has taken it upon itself to empower women, one of Kiitan Foundation’s core mission is to slowly but surely empower women with marketable skills and business funding to enable women stand on their feet, provide for their families and consequently have positive roles and impacts on their immediate community and at large.
Here are a few ways you can support Kiitan Foundation in empowering women and girls;
– donate to the cause via the website
– provide educational materials
– donate sanitary pads to keep more girls in school
– fund and invest in women’s businesses
Kiitan Foundation chooses to challenge governments, private and public organizations, individuals and religious bodies to be more inclusive in providing opportunities for women, we believe that women can be more if given the opportunity.
From challenge comes change so let’s all #choose to challenge.
Happy International Women’s Day!
